Notice is hereby given that the School Board Elections for Discovery Public School of Faribault will be held in September! The elections are being held to fill 2 positions for three year terms. Incumbents may be re-elected.

An official ballot will be mailed to each household on Monday, August 24th. Ballots will be accepted August 28th through September 17th in the School Office. The final counting of ballots shall be done at 4:30pm on Thursday, September 17th, 2020.

Our move back to the old building is complete! Our teachers and staff are so excited to see all of our students again! All of the original hardwood floors were replaced with new wood-look, waterproof, laminate flooring. The walls and wiring have been updated, the walls have been painted, and new carpet has been installed on the stairs. It’s a fresh, new look for a fresh, new school year.
School starts on September 8th
The school year officially begins on September 8th in a hybrid learning model. The number of COVID-19 cases in Rice County has risen slightly in the past few weeks. We hope to be able to continue with Hybrid Learning for at least the first month of school. All of our official learning plans will be posted here on the website after they are approved by our School Board on August 20th, 2020.
Hybrid Learning Model
In our Hybrid Model, students will be divided into two groups, Group A and Group B. Each group will consist of approximately half of the students in each grade level. Students from the same family will be placed in the same group for ease in transportation. Group A will attend school in person on Mondays and Tuesdays, and participate in Distance Learning the remaining days of the week. Group B will attend in person on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and will participate in Distance Learning on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. Your group placement will be shared by email. You will also receive your official group placement in the mail. Please look for this information so you know when to send students to school.
For the Distance Learning portion of the Hybrid Model, students who do not have a computer or other appropriate device with which to learn, may borrow a Chromebook. Families may choose to remain in distance learning by contacting the office, or emailing our director, Dan Weisser, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Join us for an Open House on Wednesday, August 26th from noon to 6:00 pm. We encourage all returning students and new students to stop by and check out the new building. Staff will be available to answer any questions about our Hybrid Learning plan and how that will look in the classroom. Alumni are also welcome to stop by. We always love to hear from you! Please remember to wear a mask and observe physical distancing while you are visiting.
