Meet the Candidates!
School Board Elections will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at our Annual Meeting. The meeting is held in the cafeteria of Discover Public School and is scheduled to start at 5:30 pm. Ballots will be accepted in the school office until 4:00 pm on that date.
Cody Hanson
I am Cody Hanson, an educator with a strong connection to Discovery Public School, where I have taught for the past 9 years. Through my experiences, I have seen firsthand the strengths of our schools as well as the challenges we face, which is why I am running for a position on the school board. I am committed to supporting student success, strengthening communication between families and the school, and helping ensure that our district continues to provide a quality education for all students.
Brandon Katzung-Hokanson
Hello everyone! I am Brandon Katzung Hokanson and I am the social studies teacher at Discovery Public School. I want to be elected to the school board because I am passionate about the school community and our students’ success. I am dedicated to ensuring that each student receives a consequential education that promotes critical thinking and prepares students for life after graduation. If elected, I will strive to effectively communicate with families, staff, and students in order to make meaningful decisions on the board.
April Garza
Hello, my name is April Garza, and Discovery has been a part of my life from the very beginning. I attended the school back when it was up on the hill and still called Covenant Academy. I was one of the first students and even had the opportunity to help choose the school’s name and logo. Being part of its early days created a strong connection that has stayed with me ever since.
That connection continued through my children. My daughter has graduated from Discovery, and my son currently attends and will also graduate from the school. Discovery means so much to me, and I want to see it grow and continue to improve for all students and staff. I believe I’m a good fit for the School Board because I care deeply about this school and know I can play a role in helping make Discovery even better than it is today.
